What defines a good church web site?

First things first. We have to start at the beginning and work our way to the answer of that question.

Q:   What should my church web site do?
A:   What does your church do? Your web site doesn't stand alone. It's an extension of your church brand.

Q:   What is a brand?
A:   It's not what you think you are. It's what others think you are.

Q:   I want people to think my church is good. How do I build a good brand?
A:   Brands are built through the total experience they offer. A good experience is authentic and consistent. It doesn't contradict itself. And, neither will a good brand. So, make sure everything linked to your brand (including your web site) is a good experience.

Q:   So, what does define a good church web site?
A:   One that both delivers on it's promise and promises what it can deliver.

So, what does a bad web site look like? Someone shared a post with some examples today. If it was bad web sites for nameless corporations, I could poke fun and laugh. But, this is the Church and I'm not laughing. I'm not criticizing the ministry of these leaders or churches. But the web sites on that post are real-life, sobering examples of one way we unintentionally shoot ourselves in the foot.
