Don't tell me how to google

Google
I had three people email me a link to this post today on the Google blog.

The short story? Google is slapping our wrist for how we use their corporate name in our conversations. Apparently, their huge success and influence on pop culture has distressed their trademark lawyers and they want us to know what we can do about it.

Yougottabekiddingme.

[Flashback to another corporate marketing yougottabekiddingme.]

Note to Google:

Oh, Google. Please don't go there... you will lose tons of street cred and cool points if you continue to make this an issue.

Somebody in marketing or legal is forgetting the attributes that have gotten you to where you are today... it's not all about your technology... it's about the stuff you give away for free...its about how you let us do what we want to do without prescribing a path...it's about how you're pushing the envelope, not fitting the mold.

All this time, Google, you made us think it was all about us... and we loved you for it. We changed the way we talk, surf and build sites because of you. But, this sounds like it's all about you....and now my radar is up.

Are you just like all the other guys? I thought you were different.
Sigh. I wonder if I can be sued for being Googlicious?

I agree 100%. Google should be glad that they have become a cultural icon of sorts... I would love to hear people using the phrase "Orchardlicious"! As long as it's being used to describe something GOOD. :)

Google had better be careful or they will soon find themselves in the Thesaurus as a synonym for control freak.
