I know one person who won't be coming
I don't think we'll be meeting this guy in Atlanta or Miami next month. Consider this his RSVP.
In case you can't read it, I'll transcribe it for you here.
"Please take my name OFF YOUR MAILING LIST INSTANTANEOUSLY! I am 84 and dying, so you are wasting money. I have nothing to do with the Internet [which made it safe for me to post this] or any new-fashioned technology, which I loathe. Hate anything liberal, particularly the homosexual agenda [what in the world??] and all electronic media. I cannot appreciate uncombed hair [Mark] and 'eggheads' [Tim] or earrings or necklaces on men [me]. Thank you kindly. R.L."
This guy is pretty feisty and entertaining. He made me smile today.

Well, Kem, I don't recall seeing any 84-year-olds at the Atlanta workshop...

I am guessing the "homosexual agenda" comment is because you look like liberals. How can I tell that?
Well, because you obviously drive very small fuel efficient vehicles that are too low for you. You are all experiencing severe cases of "Tilty Neck Syndrome."
Looks painful. You need to see a chiropractor. That's one of those things you liberals do, isn't it?
"Instantaneously" I love it.

Wow. That's all I can say.

It cracks me up that he actually changed from a pen to a marker to make his points! His style reminds me of my own father - obliviously abrasive. I dig him and I don't even know him!

Kem, Kem, Kem.
i find that those answers failed to satisfy the content of my question. this post makes me go "hmmm" but perhaps in a slightly different manner.
i think anne may be on to something.

Andrew, Andrew.
The point? I might not always have one. But in this case, this unique and passionate perspective about our agenda, my sex and the hillarious contrast between 'loathe' and 'thank you kindly' was funny. He broke through the clutter on my desk and caught my attention. Things that make yo go hmmmmm.

i was wondering doubly.

that made my day...pretty sure that's frameable (and pretty sure that's not a word) :)

Wow, he's got pretty good handwriting for a guy -- especially considering that the seems pretty enraged.

I remember getting "love notes" like these quite often in the paid postage return cards when I was a client services manager for a telecommunications company before taking this "easy" ministry job. People would send in some strange/scary/shocking things to get their points across. Great memories...

Begs the question: How does an 84 year-old end up on the Wired Churches mailing list in the first place?
Posted by: ChristophR | Mar 29, 2007 at 10:50 AM
that is really sad if you think about it. hopefully his heart will be softened in his final days...sorry if this comes across as party-pooping, but really, this guy breaks my heart more than anything.

That's the greatest thing I have seen today...

This is AWESOME! Haha. I think you should call and personally invite him.

Loved the closing!

that's hilarious. This guy will surely live to be 104, just to prove a point. Can't deny his passion for what he believes.
