The Q conference in Austin a couple of weeks ago was a unique experience. It definitely wasn't status quo and it definitely wasn't easy to process. I was left wrestling with many issues...nothing was wrapped in a nice little package with a bow on top. If the quality of a conference is measured by the conversations it creates as a result, then Q was a quality conference. (Quote by Tim Stevens.)
Here's what I'm still processing...
- "I'm going to give you a warning, an invitation and a dream."
"Take, bless, break & give." - Rick McKinley - "The distinction between power, privilege & risk." - Andy Crouch
- "The brain has to work on about 40 watts, that's a dim light bulb."
"Perception, fear and social intelligence block creativity and innovation."
Iconoclast thinking - Gregory Berns - "Counter-culture, anti-culture and culture-jamming". Micah White
- "Is there good sound and bad sound or just true sound?" - David Crowder
- "I used to try to create captivating messages (about capturing) now I try to create liberating messages (about freedom)." - Shane Hipps
- "The ought does not reflect the is." - Ambassador Max Kampelman
This conversation format was a refreshing, thought-provoking and challenging experience. It forced me to test assumptions, mix things up and isolate emotions. It was very active and innovative...there was no margin to sit back as a passive participant. It's like a personal trainer just ran my brain through a major workout ... whew. I need to recover.
