It's summer and I'm acting like it

During the summer, my life takes a dramatic turn. Here's Kem's Summer Code:

  • Work less hours
  • Blog less often
  • Check email less often
  • Sleep in until at least 9 a.m.
  • Spend nights up late watching movies
  • Spend days at the pool
  • Play games with my kids
  • Go on more dates with my husband
  • Forget the meaning of words like structure, deadline or 24-hour turnaround

It's a renewing season for me every year and I protect it like it was a puppy crossing a busy intersection. (OK, sounds dramatic, but I think you get the picture.) Being a driven, task-oriented, workaholic...this isn't as easy as it may look. Sometimes I go as far as unplugging my computer, or I'll be temped to check email "real quick". So, I do what I have to do to preserve it, or I'd burn myself out along with my relationships. My family and my ministry teams have become accustomed to this season in my life and work hard at helping me stay faithful to the "summer code".

Life changes again in September, but until then, happy summer.

New GCC Web Site Almost Here

We're just 36 hours away from launching the new GCC web site and it's a race to the finish line. Here's a picture of my desk. This is what I've resorted to for that last push. If you look closely at my monitor, you can get a sneak peek of the new site (and our new church logo).

Gettingdesperate

We’ve designed this site [simply] to answer only two important questions. Only two. That's all.

  1. Is this for a fit me?
  2. If so, what is my next step? [And if you’re new to GCC, you can relax – your next step may be a simple as signing up for our enewsletter.]

To meet our objectives [make it relevant, engaging, easy and interactive] we’ve partnered with some experts in the biz; Aspire! One, a strategic branding firm and Fellowship Technologies, a church management solution firm. More about these dynamic professionals in future post.

The rest of the heart and talent behind the project comes from the volunteer team.

Webparty

This is a picture of my kitchen table on Tuesday night at 10 p.m. This team is dedicated and passionate, showing up for these all-night "web parties" on a regular basis. They work a full 10-12 hours at their day job and then show up at my house (with laptops) for a spaghetti dinner and another 6-8 hours of development, strategizing and testing. We geek out and push my network to its limits.

Keep watching GCCwired.com over the next few days. The next level is on its way.

Some Days Turn Out Better Than Others

Just about the time I get a little puffed up about how well I balance working from home; successfully multi-tasking to meet both the needs of my children and responsibilities of my career. Something like this happens.

Onemorething

This is the result of running the kids bathwater in between answering emails. Ok, I guess this gig really is a complicated juggle that I'm not perfect at. Now you know.
