- It was freezing. Ok, not freezing like it was at home, but freezing in comparison to my 'goin on vacation' expectations. I packed capris and flip flops for the entire week. I refused to put on coat. I was on vacation and didn't care if was 40 degrees. Day three I had to go to the store to buy a scarf because I got a sore throat.
- Had a blast watching the Super Bowl at the ESPN club. Kick-off was 6:30, but we got to the restaurant at 1 p.m. to secure our game floor seat in front of the big screen. Yep, math-luvin' sportsfans... we were at da' club from 1-11 p.m. Bears fans outnumbered us Colts fans 3 to 1. It felt like I was living in a real life SNL skit with John Goodman. Except these fans aren’t actors. Ohmygosh. It was hilarious. Plus, I was so winning the celebrity lookalike seek and find game. The guy behind us looked just like Said from Lost. The guy in front of us looked like Peyton Manning’s brother. No points for the guy next to us passed out on the table 4 hours before kickoff. Prince was amazing. My favorite commercial: Sprint’s connectile dysfunction.
- Our hotel workout room was approximately 10 x 10 with 8 machines, no ventilation and no cleaning spray for equipment. Obviously not designed by anyone who actually works out. Gross.
- We went to the Builder's Show...but it was overwhelmingly big and felt too much like work. So we left. But, not before we stopped by the Tamko display.
- Went to Kennedy Space Center on Sunday. They do not do a good job at telling an authentic story. It doesn’t look like they’ve updated the facilities or movies since I was there 25 years ago. All over the place… tours, movies, print materials… the story they verbalize is about NASA and KSC only accepting the best of the best of the world with the utmost attention to detail and excellence. They demonstrate this commitment to excellence with rusty fans taped together w/ blue painter’s tape, big, missing chunks of ceilings and wall, dirty facilities, broken and missing shingles from the NASA building and Ferris Bueller’s monotone teacher as the bus guide… Is it ironic that animators do a better job than rocket scientists? The IMAX movie “Magnificent Desolation” was pretty great. I dug it. Felt like I was on the moon. I officially consider it one of my life experiences now. Virtual or real… check. I did it. But overall, the day at KSC was a pretty underwhelming experience until the end when we spent some time with Story Musgrave.
- A man walked up to my sister at Landry's where we were having dinner. He gets 2 inches from her face and says “I’ve got a, a, a, you know… uh, and enlarged prostate.” [pause] [awkward, loooooooooooong pause] My sister says “Ok?” Then he asks where the bathroom is. Wow. That was random.
- On the last day, I found two new places I didn't know about. They both made me happy. Very fun. M&M World and Adrenalina with the indoor flow rider. That's right. Indoor surfing. Pictures of both my last day finds here.
