As part of our ongoing team conversations about improving the online experience our church delivers... we stepped away from the Web site to answer one question as individuals.
What do we like in an online experience? Not on our web site, not on other church sites...but on the sites we love and use regularly in our life... what do we like about them? Here's our answers.
- I get to choose what information comes to me and how.
- I can interact if I WANT to, but I'm not forced to.
- I can access it from any computer; public or private.
- I like the "insider scoop" on blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc. It feels real. No spin.
- It's instant.
It's interesting to me that our answers revolved around clarity, ease of access, authenticity and flow control. There were no answers about about cool technology or design. Those can hinder or enhance the online experience, but they don't make it.
What do YOU like in the sites you love and use regularly in your life?
The new header makes you look fancy!

When I'm in a hurry, I like all of the pretinent information without having to navigate in at all: Location, phone number, e-mail address, hours of operation etc.
When I have time to dig in: I like getting to know the people behind the business/church/blog etc.
Great post, Kem!

I love the "search" bar. I'm impatient and want to get right to the point. Less is more for me. I love color & great graphics where I can actually "feel" an item or "be" there. Environment is essential.

1. I like simple, short and to the point.
2. I like an incentive for coming there. (Is it telling me something or sharing details I can't get from anywhere else?)
3. Uniqueness has to be involved.
4. Throw a change up every once and awhile. If you report, post or comment on the same things all the time, it gets old. Just like, "I can tell you what will be on the 6:30pm NBC World News tonight already old!"
5. Is the person providing the information accurate, humble but honest and someone I can relate and look to in life?

I like simplicity in interaction. If I need to do something it needs to be obvious, easy to understand, and clear. Great examples are Google and the Twitter home page. There's no doubt where you interact.
I think we would be a lot more effective if we focused on the user experience.

I like for the information that I'm looking for to be at my fingertips.
I like for a search to be easy...and obvious.
I like easy navigation.
I like it when pop up ads and any ads that open up to cover important information are non-existent.

I like site subjects to be short, straight to the point and specific. I really don't have time to read 3 or 4 pages about one thing.
I like pictures too.For me, pictures seem to enhance any column I am reading and good pictures draw me in. That may sound dumb but it is true.
I also like sites where I can comment...like now :)
God bless!
