A little worthless insight into what happens on my writing days:
- Soundtracks. I'm most productive listening to these.
- Battlestar Gallactica
- Iron Man
- John Adams
- Vocabulary. I make up words when I'm locked in a room by myself.
- Isolativity: Combination of lonely isolation and productivity. The up and downside of writing.
- Manuscrap: Combination of manuscript and crap. Potential outcome without productive days and an outsider's perspective of my work.
- Wardrobe. I'm starting to get predictable. I look the same every day.
- Showered; not intending to be seen, but prepared just in case.
- Casual; always sporting the t-shirt and bandana do-rag.
- Location. It took me awhile, but I've found two places that bring out the best in me.
- Notre Dame Campus; library or bookstore.
- My renovated home office; also known as my "inner sanctum".
- Exercise. I'm failing miserably. It looks like this:
- Walk from my desk to the coffee pot, and return.
- Walk from my desk to the bathroom and return.
- Walk from my desk to the chocolate stash and return.
I think any home office worker can relate to your exercise routine! I also relate to Anne Lamott's belief that we generally write 6 or 7 pages of crap before we actually know what we're writing. Thanks for the giggle.

Iron Man = GREAT soundtrack. Battlestar Gallactica = Not so much. :)

I can't tell you how much I needed that. I am well acquainted with manuscrap, though for music I've been partial to Bach for Book Readers.
Um, you don't keep the chocolate within arms reach?!? Are you rationing it?

Home stretch... it's worth it! (And I relate to your exercise routine without the productive excuse.)
